Summer Training Information
Peer Assistance and Leadership is a peer mentoring program aimed at helping primarily at-risk students. PALs at Austin High School work with students from Sanchez Elementary, Zilker Elementary, O. Henry Middle School, and Rosedale School for Special Education. Each PAL student will work with two students for the duration of the school year. In addition to serving as a peer mentor, PAL students are expected to perform at least 12 hours of community service per semester.
First Six Weeks: For the first six weeks, PALs are training to work with their PALees. They are learning about various peer helping dynamics and strategies including trust, group norms, communication, team building, rapport building, confidentiality, and potential at-risk issues.
